Who can become an Umbrella Guardian?
Our Property Guardians must be 18 years or over, in full time employment (or can provide a Guarantor), have no pets and a checkable background. The key credentials are flexibility and willingness to live in some great and unusual locations.
How do I become a guardian?
It’s simple – just email, phone, text or WhatsApp us expressing an interest. +44 (0) 7754 518229, +44 (0)208 450 2620, email@example.com
How much will it cost?
You’ll pay a one-off returnable deposit (usually £500), plus an admin fee and a monthly Guardian Licence Fee. The latter varies according to the location and style of the property. Most properties include all bills, but there can be exceptions.
What will I have to do as a Property Guardian?
Simply live, full-time in one of our properties, and report any threats or risks to the property – including maintenance issues such as leaks and broken windows, as well as any potential nuisances from vandalism to trespassers.
So, will I be responsible for stopping vandals, squatters or trespassers entering the property?
No. You are NOT a security guard, your role is to live peaceably and report any activity that may damage or threaten the property. You will never be expected to endanger yourself, and you will have 24/7 emergency numbers and safety procedures in the event of a threat or risk to you or the property arising.
Are the properties furnished?
No. We do provide white goods and some other items, but you will need to provide your own furniture. When there is furniture left in a property, we are happy to discuss the potential re-use of items in rooms that you view. Umbrella Guardians is committed to recycling and avoiding landfill and waste wherever possible.
How long can I stay for?
This varies according to our client’s needs. We are happy to provide you with a rough guide of how long you can stay for when we offer you a property. When one guardianship is coming to an end, we will do our best to find you another property when one becomes available.
